FAQ's
Q: DO I NEED TO BE A PROFESSIONAL ARTIST/ILLUSTRATOR/DESIGNER/WRITER/ETC TO ENTER?
A: No! The project is open to all skill types and levels! This is what makes it interesting and exciting. For professionals, it’s an opportunity to participate in something that is not about getting client work done or responding to a specific brief. For everyone else, it’s a fantastic opportunity and excuse explore your own style of creativity! The best thing is, we can all connect, support, inspire and learn from one another as we take part in the project.
Q: IS THERE AN AGE LIMIT?
A: There is no age limit! And in 2020, for the first time, we’re opening up an under 16s category - so if you’re keen to get involved, and so is your daughter or son, go for it!
Q: IS THERE A THEME?
A: Drawn From Here aims to encourage your own creative journey, so there is an open theme so you can create whatever you like. You may like to choose your own theme or just let your creative heart wander free. However, if you prefer to have a bit of a challenge, each year we will select an optional theme that you might like to explore. Those journals that respond to this will be exhibited grouped together as best we can.
Q: I’M A WRITER, CAN I STILL TAKE PART?
A: Drawn From Here is for ALL creatives! That’s writers, photographers, sewers and stitchers (we’ve had fabric books exhibited before!), illustrators, designers, artists, musicians (talk to us if you’d like to perform your piece/s on the night!), and even 3D artists have taken part (get in touch if you have an amazing idea but you’re unsure if it’s allowed). The only rule is that you use the book in someway…
Q: 30 SHEETS (60 pages) IS A LOT! DO I HAVE TO COMPLETE THEM ALL?
A: No not at all. You can remove pages if it’s too many - or add pages if you’d like more. In fact, you can even take the whole book apart and re-sew it with whatever pages you’d like inside (great if you want to use fabric or some other kind of material). So long as the book is used in some way, and remains within its original dimensions (A5 and no more than 10cm thick) - the only limit is your imagination!
